You may feel a bit insecure or nervous at the thought of your first coaching session. In that case, you are in good company: most people do too. You can be open about it. After all, you probably want to change something in your life. But you don't yet know what that change will look like. So maybe there is already a joyful expectation bouncing around inside you, dancing a dance with its partner: uncertainty. So you make your appointment by phone or email - and with that, you have already done the hardest part. Making the call was already the first step of your transformative coaching process. You have broadcast to the wholeness of your being that you are ready for more clarity and change. And now the day has come. We do not yet know each other. You may wanter what is to be expected, and enter. What awaits you is a friendly welcome - either in German, French or English. Something to drink is already waiting for you. You discover the room and choose a chair while I switch my mobile phone into flight mode so that I can be there for you, fully concentrated and undisturbed. And then I ask you what brings you there. I will not ask you how I can help you, because that is not my role. Instead, I will support you in helping yourself to the best of my abilities. It may sound like typical coachspeak, but here it is: You already have within yourself the solutions to your questions and challenges you bring with you. And then you simply tell what your topic or your story is, and where you want to go from there. I will listen to you carefully, take notes, perhaps ask some question for clarification. And maybe I will then notice that this or that issue “sticks out” in some way and wants to be addressed first. And then we start cooperating on that issue if you agree. Perhaps we just talk, perhaps we already do a “systemic constellation” with you standing on cardboard ground markers, listening for things coming up from deeper down, maybe I invite you into a relaxed state to then conjure up some inner images. There are many different pathways we can follow. Simply clarifying the question may already move us much closer to the answer. Rest assured: despite all the “systemic” talk on this website, I do not apply rigid models or methods, but rely on my intuition and experience to feel where, for example, some emotional aspects glow more than others, or where something being said that wants has a peculiar resonance indicating there is more underneath. Or something that should be there remains hidden in a loud silence. There are many possible leads. And if you do not want to venture into some exploration but need a quick solution to a very real challenge at hand, you are welcome to say so, and that will take priority. At some point of the conversation I will ask you about your goals. Because if you have a clear goal, you can better measure how much closer you get. But coaching also works without a precise goal. It's also fine if for example you say instead: "I just want to reflect upon my life with someone. I know that I want to change something. But I don't know where to start looking." Going for more clarity in thinking or feeling can be a life- changing goal in itself. One very important thing: I invite you to be open and honest with yourself. You will be neither judged, nor shamed, blamed or condemned. The coaching room is a different space entirely. It is there for you to open up into honesty with yourself without feeling bad about it. Clarity or change need to start from a place of honesty and acceptance about what is there, just as it is. After the first lesson, you will have a rather reliable impression or gut feeling whether I am the right coach for you. At the end of the first hour, I will ask you whether you would like to go on and remind you of the fees. This way you can decide in complete transparency. Trust your feeling, trust the resonance that is or is not there between us. It's also perfectly okay if it doesn't fit. In any case, you can then decide whether to go on. Or you think of it overnight or for a few days and then tell me. And if you notice that you feel comfortable and that we are going to make a difference in your life, then we can also continue immediately. Usually with a first appointment, I reserve some additional time at the end of the first hour, just in case. Or we can already arrange a follow-up appointment. Then come the second and further sessions, a few days or weeks later. They run without a fixed pattern. We see what comes up and how it serves your personal needs and goals. It may also be that some follow-up sessions take place online or by phone when that is more practical for you. Remote sessions do work well. If you live far away, maybe even the first session has already taken place online. Has this description made you feel a bit more reassured or strengthened your resolve? Coaching can change lives. If you have taken an interest in coaching, then there is a reason for that interest. A motivation is already there, and that is a good start. Do not ignore that signal without giving it a try.
